Neon Buzzline / LED scrolling text
LED scrolling text
Make your phone a scrolling LED banner for gigs, airport pickups and the stands. Type your message, set the colour and speed, then play it full screen.
Turn your phone sideways for bigger letters.
Using it at a gig or an arrivals gate
- Type a short message. Capitals read best from a distance, and fewer words scroll past faster.
- Press Play full screen, turn your brightness up and hold the phone sideways. Tap the screen to bring back the controls; Exit or the Esc key leaves.
- Test the speed from a few steps away before the moment comes: what feels slow in your hand is often just right for someone across the room.
What the settings do
Letter height is how many rows of dots make up a line of text: fewer rows give big chunky dots, like a bus sign; more rows give smoother letters. Smooth drops the dots and slides glowing text instead. Still holds a short message in the middle without scrolling. Speed adjusts with the letter height, so letters cross the screen at a similar pace whichever you pick.
While the marquee plays full screen, the page asks the browser to keep the screen awake (the Screen Wake Lock API) and lets go when you exit. Where a browser cannot do that, the page tells you, so you can lengthen the auto-lock time instead.
Questions
Why does my iPhone still show the browser bars?
Safari on iPhone does not let web pages hide its toolbars. The marquee still fills the page; for a cleaner screen, use Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open Neon Buzzline from the new icon.
Does it work without a connection?
Once the page has loaded, the marquee runs entirely on your phone, so a weak signal in a crowd does not stop it. Keep the tab open; reloading needs the connection again.
Can I use emoji or other alphabets?
Yes. Characters the chosen letters lack, such as emoji, Greek or Japanese, are drawn with your phone's own fonts and turned into dots like the rest. Detailed characters read better with a taller letter height.
